Worth listening to entire audio–ID demanded, then open carriers told they could not come back carrying weapons even if ID produced showing not felons–talk about "mumbo jumbo"!
At one point, the men ask Buckmaster what Michigan law they are breaking. Buckmaster responds by saying, "you know what, you can take your mumbo jumbo …" "Mumbo jumbo," Webb says. "That's your rule book?" Buckmaster at several points threatens arrest if Harris and Webb do not leave.
….
"If I give you my ID and prove that I'm not a felon, can I carry here?" Harris asks.
"No," Buckmaster says.
This is ridiculous! Why are police able to violate our rights without recourse? The most anyone gets is an “I’m sorry” from the department. There should be major recourse for breaking an oath, the oath that each officer takes as part of his duties. The officer should be personally fined and demoted. If it happens a second time he should be fired and blacklisted from any further LEO duties ANYWHERE.
We need to remove this double standard that LEO’s have elevated privileges and can do as they please. We need to form a group that helps people with their rights, much like the ACLU, but more comprehensive for people.
Agreed. There is no doubt in my mind, after listening to the audio, that this officer intentionally violated his oath. That is certainly the way it appears to me, that he was making up the law he wanted to enforce. And where does he get the idea people want to carry to “be a big man”? Maybe that’s why he is a cop? That would explain a lot.
Curious what the NRA’s Law Enforcement Division will do about this.
