NASA Gives 99-Percent Probability Of 5.0 Earthquake In LA

That’s “LA” as in “La-Abra”, Orange County, and 5.0 as in 6.3:

“There’s enough energy stored to produce about a magnitude 6.1 to 6.3 earthquake,” Dr. Donnellan described.

Dr. Donnellan and her team then proceeded to measure the probability of a similar quake for the entire 60-mile radius of the Los Angeles area. The results produced a shocking 99-percent chance of a magnitude 5.0 or greater in Los Angeles within three years.

Seismologists at the US Geological Survey have questioned that probability, suggesting it may in fact be slightly lower, stating: “…the accepted random chance of a (magnitude five) or greater in this area in three years is 85 percent, independent of the analysis in this paper.”

San Diego Sheriff will not seek 9th Circuit en banc in Peruta right to carry case.

San Diego Sheriff will not seek 9th Circuit en banc in Peruta right to carry case..

The Sheriff could still file (within 90 days of last week’s ruling) a petition for writ of certiorari with SCOTUS.

Also, a majority of Ninth Circuit judges could move sua sponte to rehear the case.

There are so many moving pieces to this puzzle that I hesitate to make a guess, but I would say today’s action at least makes the first less likely.

I think the solidness of the Peruta opinion makes the second less likely.

It appears the left is punting to delay arrival of a carry case at SCOTUS doorstep.  That may happen soon anyway with the Drake case out of Third Circuit.

California is in play! New Field Poll indicates Obama could Lose in CA

The Sacramento Bee reports the results here but misleads with the following:

Though Obama is strongly favored to win California in his re-election bid next year, the poll suggests many Democrats may vote for him only begrudgingly…

The actual Field poll has a margin of error of up to 4.6%, and states the following:

The current proportion approving of his performance (46%) is now only slightly greater than the proportion disapproving (44%), a big change from three months ago when Californians approved of the job he was doing 54% to 37%. In addition, those who are inclined to reelect Obama outnumber those not inclined by just five points (49% to 44%).

I.E., "just five points" NOT "strongly favored" as the Bee reported.

ANOTHER LAWSUIT FILED CHALLENGING BAN ON SHIPPING AMMUNITION INTO CALIFORNIA

ANOTHER LAWSUIT FILED CHALLENGING BAN ON SHIPPING AMMUNITION INTO CALIFORNIA (Chuck Michel) excerpt:

The National Rifle Association (NRA) today joined the Calguns Foundation, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (the largest trucker’s trade association), the Folsom Shooting Club, and two individual truckers in a lawsuit challenging California’s soon-to-be-implemented law banning most shipments of handgun ammunition into California. The case is OOIDA v. Lindley. Click here to view the Complaint. Assembly Bill 962 was signed into law last year. Starting in February 2011, the law will criminalize the delivery and transfer of handgun ammunition not done in face-to-face transactions.

He Who Hath Felt for Delta Smelt Hath Freedom Lethal Blow Dealt

Driving up and down the I-5 you can't ignore all the roadside signs protesting how another farm has been killed by Congress.  Whether by design or not, we are losing the nation's main breadbasket.

» Fish or Famine — TONIGHT! The Great American Blog « FOXNews.com.

In turn, farmers are making tough decisions. They are losing their farms (in some circumstances third generation farms) and forced to fire the workers. Food banks can't keep shelves stocked because of all the needy families and eventually, farmers say, you and I will feel the effects. We will be forced to eat fruits, veggies and nuts from other countries (with few regulations, pesticides, etc).

Consider that Ukraine was the main breadbasket of Europe until Stalin's forced collectivization of farms created an artificial famine killing 7 to 10 million people.  Now consider all that against the backdrop of the current healthcare "debate" and the shocking speed at which the current occupant of the white house is taking us down the road to serfdom.  Should food be considered a basic human right?  God help us if it ever is.  Video of the Holodomor Genocide in Ukraine:

CA-LERT Latest on Ammo Bill

CAL-ERT  08/18/09 — Noon^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^CALIFORNIA LEGISLATIVE ALERT This information is accurate at the time this CAL-ERT was written and originally distributed. The NRA Members' Councils of California and the California Rifle and Pistol Association have issued this alert in a cooperative effort and will keep you informed as the legislative situation changes in Sacramento.
LEGISLATION PENDING: (This is a partial list. Complete list is found at http://www.calnra.com/legs.shtml) The California State Legislature is back in session and two very bad anti-gun bills could be voted on at any time.  Please take the requested action to oppose both of these bills.  Your support is critical if we are to defeat this unreasonable legislation.
AB962 (DeLeon) AMMUNITION SALES RESTRICTIONS This bill would:
• establish a database and a program administered and maintained by the Department of Justice for licensing handgun ammunition vendors.
• require that commencing July 1, 2010, unless specifically excluded, no person shall sell or transfer more than 50 rounds of handgun ammunition in any month unless he or she is registered as a handgun ammunition vendor.
• also provide that no retail seller of ammunition shall sell, offer for sale, or display for sale, any handgun ammunition in a manner that allows that ammunition to be accessible to a purchaser without the assistance of the retailer or employee thereof.
• further provide that handgun ammunition may only be purchased in a face-to-face transaction and only if certain conditions exist. This restriction would eliminate mail-order and Internet sales of ammunition.
• require certain ammunition vendors to obtain a thumbprint and other information from ammunition purchasers, and would require submission of that information to the Department of Justice.
Furthermore, if AB962 were to pass, it would potentially halt all smallbore rifle youth programs, including ROTC, Boy Scouts Girl Scouts and 4-H shooting sports programs.  Friends and family-members who provide ammunition to each-other could become criminals if this bill were to become law.
STATUS: AB962 has been moved to the Suspense File in the Senate Appropriations Committee and can be voted on at any time.
POSITION: NRA & CRPA STRONGLY OPPOSE

SB585 (Leno) – GUN SHOW BAN   This bill would prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition at the Cow Palace and would thereby make a violation of that prohibition a misdemeanor. This bill would ban having a gun show at the Cow Palace, which is a state owned facility in the South San Francisco area. If it passes, it will likely be expanded to ban gun shows on any public property, such as fairgrounds, throughout the State. It is a major attack on the right of sportsmen and other firearms owners to assemble, communicate with each other, and to purchase new, used and collectible firearms, accessories and sporting supplies.
STATUS: SB585 is now on the Assembly Floor and can be voted on at any time.
POSITION: NRA & CRPA STRONGLY OPPOSE
Facts regarding SB585:
• Law enforcement fears that the lack of the gun show would drive firearms sales underground due to the lack of a the gun show as a regulated location for such sales to take place.
• The unfair lack of access to this publicly-owned venue restricts the First Amendment Rights of many thousands of attendees who have done nothing wrong and should not have to endure such censorship.
• The gun show promoters, including Crossroads of the West (who produce the show at the Cow Palace) worked with law enforcement, the state fair board and others, in support of AB295 several years ago. AB295 provided protections, including event operation under the strict scrutiny of law enforcement, at all gun shows in the state.
• Gun show promoters in California, including Crossroads of the West, have a close working relationship with law enforcement agencies (at all levels) due to the nature of cooperation that exists at gun shows, such as the one at the Cow Palace.
• California has the toughest gun show laws of any state in the nation. Currently, California's gun shows are monitored by local, state, and federal enforcement agencies and all firearms transactions are required to be processed by dealers who possess federal, state, and local licenses.
• Buying a firearm at a gun show is no different than going to a firearms dealer's store. All firearms transactions occur only after a comprehensive background check that includes a 10-day waiting period before a firearm can be delivered to the new owner.  SB585 is an attempt by anti-firearms rights activists to find more creative ways to discourage people from owning firearms! Like most such bills, it would have no impact on criminals, just on lawful individuals!
• Please note: As a major gun show promoter throughout California, Crossroads of the West Gun Shows (Bob and Lynn Templeton) have been STRONG NRA supporters for more than twenty years. Their efforts to support the NRA have resulted in the recruitment/retention of tens-of-thousands of NRA members throughout this time. And as we all know, this is California — a battleground state for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and every NRA member is important to the survival of the Second Amendment.

California Ammunition Bill: Give Box of Ammo to Sister, Go to Jail

Bill to Restrict Ammunition Sales Takes a Step Forward in the Golden State

Tuesday, July 07, 2009

Please Contact the Senate Appropriations Committee!

Earlier today, the Senate Public Safety Committee passed Assembly Bill 962.  The bill now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee for consideration.  No hearing date has been scheduled.

AB962, sponsored by Assembly Member Kevin De Leon (D-45), would make it a crime to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends, unless you are registered as a “handgun ammunition vendor” in the Department of Justice’s database.  Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed and store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers.  The bill would also require purchasers submit to fingerprinting, which would be kept in dealers' records and subject to inspection by the Department of Justice.  Lastly, mail order ammunition sales would be prohibited.

Please contact the members of the Senate Appropriations Committee TODAY and respectfully urge them to oppose AB962.  Contact information can be found below.
